Thalassa by Ruby Donovan

Features

ARTIST NOTES: The dark shell colouration of the once white Bivalves (Venridae SPP) is due to the deep muddy sediment from which it was removed as part of the process to keep the Murray Mouth open. The decorative natural seaweed has been found along the shore nearby has been processed to retain its naturally occurring colour, combines to create this eye catching art piece. The size, shape and positioning of each Bivalve creates a circular effect that's enhanced by the oxide affected sand rings. The simplicity of the colour of the locally sources items used in this piece (black and white gives cause to its name.

ARTIST BIO

Ruby Donovan  - "artbyrd"

South Australian Artist

Ruby Donovan was born in South Australia  in 1971 and raised by  migrant parents in Adelaide.

She has a passion for the South Australian landscape and all that naturally occurs within it - be it from the rugged coastline flanked by the Great Southern Ocean  to the Arid Lands of the Flinders Ranges.

Her artwork reflects the continuous evolution of nature; she draws inspiration from the naturally occurring  colours and textures found in our local environment; from the Blues, Yellows and  Reds of the shells to the Whites, Greys and Browns of the leaves.

Ruby has an innate propensity for circular and curved shapes; as they evoke a feeling of gentleness, quietness  and calmness in which she then incorporates into her designs.

Ruby endeavour's to share the beauty of all that she feels and she's in the South Australian landscape with others.
