On The Edge by Kerstin Freund

ARTIST NOTES: We found this little beauty on our last trip to the Clare Valley, in Kybunga. We stayed at the beautiful Old School House, and these two old cars were hidden in a canyon right next to it. Apparently it gets flooded every 7 years only, and the owner of the School House kindly took us down there. I do have a fascination with old cars!

Oil painting on stretched canvas. Premium 340 gm cotton duck attached to a quality pine stretcher frame and includes gallery style folded corners. Canvas edges are 3 cm thick and the painting continues around the edges to allow hanging without a frame.

ARTIST BIO

I want my paintings to convey the endless joy I am feeling when I am creative

I am inspired by nature as I believe it has connections with our soul. I want to capture nature’s beauty and harmony and particularly light, how it transforms landscapes and seascapes into something magical that is changing every minute. This inspires me to paint and interpret what I see and feel, and I want the viewer of my art to be able to experience these emotions.

I love to paint with oil to create realistic works that still reveal individual brush strokes and marks on closer inspection.

Art has always been an important part of my life. When I am painting, I relax and get completely lost in it. I started drawing at an early age in Germany, with pencil and ink on paper, mainly inspired by M.C. Escher and moorish architecture. Later I also started to paint with acrylics and watercolour. My move to Adelaide ignited my love for art again and I enrolled in classes to paint with oil. I love the texture of the oil paint, and enjoy using it both with brushes and palette knifes. I am fascinated by Australian landscapes, their diversity, beauty and stunning colours and I love to capture patterns and reflections in water. Equally, I am drawn to anything old and rustic. I like to challenge myself by trying out new mediums and techniques and I am constantly on the lookout for new subjects and inspirations. I also love travelling, which for me has changed completely as I now look at everything differently and get inspiration for new paintings by the sights I encounter.
I have have received a commendation for one of my paintings at the Royal Adelaide Show Art Prize. Still working part to full time, I try to steal as much time as possible to spend in my studio and I love to share my work and journey with you.
