International Selling artist Lochesque is a self-taught painter specialising in acrylic on canvas. The genesis of his artistic endeavours began at the age of seven, inspired by the bright colours and heavy black outlines of Saturday morning cartoons. Since then, his style has continued to manifest and develop into bold and striking imagery on increasingly larger canvas.
The other artistic endeavours of Lochesque include filmmaking and graphic design. He created the colourful wine labels for Ulster Park Wines, and his recent film credits include 'The Tourist' (STAN), 'La Brea' (Channel 9/NBC), and Season 2 of Aftertaste (ABC).
Lochesque artwork has been featured as part of the Clare Valley Portrait Prize, and displayed in various hospitality and retail venues.
'Your Spectrum is Showing' May-June of 2022, was the first solo exhibition by Lochesque. It featured scenes and portraits inspired by his favourite music, films and cultural references.
Defining a single category for the Lochesque style proves to be continuously elusive.
His visual style can be broken down into two main elements: a two-tone background of a scene or a totem, and the main subject(s) created using contrasting colours and highlighted with thick black lines.
Lochesque's works rally a quiet protest. The bright visual style and large canvas are a push-back against realism paintings revered throughout rural townships; the imagery of his art showcases unlikely triumphs; and the portraits idolise and honour unique creators.
